Structured SACOT Programming for Substance Use Disorder in North Carolina

At Pyramid Healthcare, we recognize that recovery is a long-term process that requires structure, accountability, and ongoing clinical support. Our Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment (SACOT) program offers intensive outpatient care for individuals in North Carolina who need a high level of support without 24-hour supervision.

SACOT serves as a vital part of the continuum of care for substance use treatment, especially for those transitioning from detox or inpatient services, or for individuals who require more structure than traditional outpatient therapy can provide. This program delivers evidence-based and holistic treatment in a community-based setting, promoting long-term recovery while allowing clients to return home each day.

SACOT is ideal for individuals who:

  • Need a structured treatment environment while maintaining some independence
  • Have a longer history of substance use or co-occurring mental health conditions requiring a higher level of care
  • Are looking for holistic and evidence-based therapies to strengthen their recovery
  • Require supportive housing to maintain a stable and recovery-focused environment

At Pyramid Healthcare, we focus not only on breaking the cycle of addiction but also on helping individuals rebuild their lives with essential coping skills, improved relationships and healthier habits.

Why a Full Continuum of Care Matters

A full continuum of care is one of the most important elements in achieving long-term sobriety. Moving gradually through detox, residential care, SACOT, SAIOP, and outpatient therapy helps individuals maintain progress and avoid relapse.

Jumping directly from inpatient treatment to independent living can result in lost structure and increased relapse risk. SACOT bridges this gap, delivering daily therapy and support to help clients transition successfully into everyday life.

Through structured care, clients continue developing coping strategies, emotional stability, and practical life skills—all while receiving the clinical support they need to stay on track.

Key Programming Goals of SACOT

Our SACOT program in North Carolina is designed to meet the needs of individuals with complex substance use and co-occurring disorders. Treatment is delivered five days a week and includes:

  • Building a strong support network for long-term recovery
  • Developing educational and vocational skills to promote independence
  • Enhancing family dynamics & interpersonal relationships through therapy
  • Understanding the impact of substance use and learning sustainable coping strategies

This program is particularly beneficial for individuals with long-term substance use histories or those who require greater structure than a traditional outpatient program can provide.

Holistic and Experiential Therapies

At Pyramid Healthcare, we incorporate holistic and experiential therapies into our treatment approach, allowing clients to explore alternative healing methods that complement traditional therapy. These services include:

  • Art therapy for self-expression and emotional processing
  • Music therapy to support relaxation and cognitive healing
  • Experiential therapy to strengthen coping skills and personal growth

By integrating evidence-based and holistic therapies, we provide a well-rounded recovery approach that supports not only sobriety but also emotional and psychological well-being.

SACOT Treatment Approach

Our SACOT programming combines individual and group therapy, crisis planning, and case management to support recovery on every level.

SACOT can also be customized to address the needs of:

  • Individuals with co-occurring mental health disorders alongside substance use
  • Pregnant women or mothers in recovery
  • Clients with multiple rehab experiences who need additional structure
  • HIV-positive clients or individuals with complex medical needs

During treatment, our clinicians work closely with clients to connect them with community resources, ensuring they have the necessary support and tools for life after PHP.

SACOT Schedule

  • 30-day program

  • Monday through Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

This schedule provides structured care while allowing individuals to integrate recovery into their daily lives, reinforcing accountability and self-sufficiency.

Supportive SACOT Housing

For clients who reside outside the local area, Pyramid Healthcare in North Carolina offers supportive housing options to provide 24-hour recovery support while participating in SACOT.

  • Male clients reside in River House or Dream House
  • Female clients reside in Grace House
  • Housing includes coordinated care between residential and clinical staff
