Frequently Asked Drug, Alcohol, and Behavioral Health Assessment Questions
At Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare Assessment Center, we get a lot of questions about how our assessment process works. Who can receive a drug, alcohol, and behavioral assessment?
The Assessment Center can clinically identify and provide treatment options for adult individuals and any adolescents as young as 12 with potential mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and eating disorders.
Who will be performing the evaluation and what qualifications does this individual have?
The assessments are conducted by a Master’s level clinician. This clinician has over 20 years of experience in the behavioral health industry working with clients in outpatient therapy, sub-acute placement, residential treatment, therapeutic boarding school, and traditional boarding schools. The individual also has experience as an educational consultant and a therapeutic Placement Specialist helping clients and families find appropriate treatment options specific to their clinical needs.
How long does an assessment usually take?
In order to fully examine a client’s status, treatment needs, and provide recommendations, the assessment process will take about two to two and a half hours. There are several areas and life domains that need to be covered during the assessment process in order to accurately reflect the client’s status. We will ask questions about the current state of the individual like precipitating event leading up to seeking treatment, living situation, and the goal for treatment.
Will my drug and alcohol evaluation be covered under insurance?
The cost of the assessment will be $250 and will need to be paid at the time services are given. If after an assessment the client chooses to be admitted into Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare or a Pyramid Healthcare program, the payment of the assessment will be extended as a credit towards any deductible or out of pocket costs associated commercial health insurance plans. If the client chooses to enroll in a different program, the Assessment Center will provide a form that can be submitted by the insured client to their insurance carrier for reimbursement.
Does someone else need to be present at my evaluation?
Clients are not required to bring someone with them to their assessment; however, we do recommend it. If another friend or family member is present, we are able to ask for input and additional information from them as well as asking the individual seeking treatment. If the client is a minor, we require that a parent or guardian accompany the child during their assessment.
In our experience, having an additional friend or family member helps yield the best results for the client and helps to provide a source of comfort and support. In the event that a client brings support, we will see the client alone, the accompanying individual, and then both parties together.
What information/paperwork should I have on hand for my evaluation?
If you have any records from other programs or providers that you attended, the name and phone numbers for these programs would be information that is helpful to have during the assessment. A list of medications that are prescribed to you, as well as any over the counter supplements, will be good as well. Any documents describing the psychosocial history of the client should also be brought in.
